Christina Ricci: Style Icon

Groovy Style Icon: Christina Ricci in "Pumpkin"..a sweet Mod in a superficial world.

Pumpkin (2002) is my most fav. film of hers..a dark indie comedy romance where she tries to help her sorority sisters win the ultimate award by training handicapped young men in the Challenged Games. Ricci plays Carolyn who is paired up with Pumpkin & at first she is disgusted by all of this until she starts to fall in love with him. He is really charming & adorable!! She learns that it doesn't matter who you are or what you are, you shouldn't be treated differently from anyone else unlike her stupid sorority sisters who are nothing but bullies. Against all odds, the romance blossoms & reaches a wonderful ending where you can't help but get up off your chair & cheer.

My fav. scene in the film is the marathon at the end when Pumpkin sees Carolyn in the audience & proves to everyone that he is more than a guy confined to a wheelchair & races while the song "Falling From Grace" by The Gentle Waves is played in the background. Perfect song to end the film.

How to achieve her style in that film:

A simple mod mini-dress sleeveless from Neiman Marcus & pair it with 60s kitten heels or flats or you can also do any colour cardigans with miniskirt of the same colour. Think early 60s Jackie O.

Jeff Weiss of Stylus magazine called Pumpkin "one of the most underrated films of the decade."
